A report is in from Mexico. Homebrewed beer is on the rise. Elba Copado also known as La Señora de la Cerveza, award winning brewster from Tlaquepaque reports that this year’s Mexican National Homebrewers Convention will be in San Pedro Tlaquepaque, in the area of Guadalajara.
Last year’s event drew 30 people. This year preparations will be organized for 400 people, now with 100 homebrewers in the Mexican homebrewing network. “It is not much, but it is good to know that the community is growing.” The Homebrewers Conference is scheduled for August 1.
Activities planned include homebrew competition, a presentation of a Spanish language book about beer and the sampling of indigenous brews such as pulque and tequila.
I’ve heard great things about Elba’s brews from other craft brewers in Mexico. She is both a homebrewer and the proprietor of Microcerveceria Beer Lounge located in Tlaquepaque. Watch her in action on youtube as she explains the homebrewing and beer making process on an in-depth report from Mexcian television. Wheat beers, stouts and assorted other ales and lagers are her realm. For more information about Microcerveceria Beer Lounge check out Elba's blogspot.
