There’s a lot of beer tradition with breweries offering seasonal specialty beers. I can recall when the history books referred only to Bock beers in the springtime, “Oktoberfest” beers in the fall, Summer ales and wheat beers in the summer and Winter warmers and barleywine ales for the colder months. My oh my! Today’s interest in beer flavor and beer diversity has changed our beer world.
Taking a look at the Brewers Association’s website Craft Beer Throughout the Year and viewing the summary of typical beer seasonals indicates we are approaching the Autumnal beer season featuring Oktoberfest, Harvest Ales and Pumpkin Beers.
Not so fast beer enthusiast. Take a look at what breweries will soon be offering this fall season. Here is a brief sampling: 21 a Doublebock, Oktoberfest (of course), Imperial Eclipse Stout, Double Dead Guy Ale, Juniper Pale Ale, Bam Noire (dark farmhouse ale) , Harvest Ale , XII (a blend of strong beers), Will Steven’s Pumpkin Ale , Broken Rake (amber), Hop Trip, and many others.
It’s a futile exercise to try to link many of the above brews to websites. Most of these beers are probably still in the tanks and not yet released. But you can get a preview and salivate over expectations while you drink up the last of the summer seasonals.
