Beer and sinful behavior.  photo ©2008 Charlie Papazian

Forgive me, I have sinned with my beer.  It is currently 101.7 degrees Beer-Fahrenheit outside. Almost identical to yesterday’s conditions where I found myself with a glass of Lagunitas IPA.   A super fine, well balanced amber India Pale Ale. The head is sustained with time indicating brewer’s attention to malt processing. There’s a classic American hop flavor and aroma; floral citrus aroma blossoms forth with hints of earthy European origin. This brew is not just all about hop bitterness. It is quite aromatic with hop and malt symphonic harmony.   It is a quintessential IPA experience. Its apparent elevated alcohol content is quite relaxing.

But I digress. I have sinned. Forgive me. I found myself placing an ice cube into this beer.   Yes dear reader I have sinned, but on second thought, forgive me not.. It was fun, enjoyable and it worked. At 100+ degrees, one ice cube kept this glass-poured IPA at just the right temperature for the duration of savoring.   Here’s an insight - the slight dilution of body and alcohol not only extended my enjoyment, but in this situation made the beer all the more refreshing.

Would the brewer recommend repeating my sin? I think never in a million years. But I dear beer drinker, from one beer drinker to another – can suggest it – if you think you could enjoy such sinful behavior.   Tickle your fancy.  Repent later.
