Vampire Diaries fans who've read the books have eagerly awaited casting news for the role of Alaric Saltzman. That wait is now officially over. It was announced today that Matt Davis will be taking on the part.
Here's a quick crash course for those not familiar with the books. Damon's feeding frenzy which claimed the life of the football coach two weeks ago left an opening in the high school faculty of Mystic Falls. The students are surprised when the position is filled by the young and very attractive Alaric. He's charming, mysterious, and takes an unusual interest in the lives of his students.
According to TV Guide's William Keck, executive producer Kevin Williamson's requirement for this role was an actor who is "hot." That seems to be a recurring theme for the men of this series.
Matt Davis is probably best known as Warner, the boyfriend of Reese Witherspoon's character in Legally Blonde. He also played Adam Hillman on the television series What About Brian.
Matt Davis was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He got his start in acting doing New York Theatre productions then moved on to feature films and television work.
Alaric will make his first appearance on the November 12 episode of Vampire Diaries.
