Conservatives and other Obama detractors were drowned out by the pageantry of Inauguration Day yesterday, but that doesn't mean they will continue to hold their fire and lay down for the new president. Now that the celebrating is over, it's back to sneering and jeering in that last bastion of Republican dominance, conservative talk radio.
Here in Boston, WRKO's Howie Carr mocked the inaugural poem for a good portion of his program yesterday, but overall Howie sounded something akin to a deflated Red Sox fan bemoaning a loss to a superior team--like the reigning American League champions, the Tampa Bay Rays.
In his column in the Boston Herald this morning, Howie tells all the "moonbats" that now the time for blaming Bush is over, and without Bush to kick around anymore, we all know who's to blame for our country's problems. That's right, liberals.
Howie must have a brain tumor, or he's just parroting Rush Limbaugh. On his syndicated radio program last week, El Rush-bo proudly and defiantly announced that he hopes Obama fails, because liberal programs are, get this, the cause of all of our problems! From the transcript:
Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what's gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don't care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: "Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails." Somebody's gotta say it.
That's right, Rush, it was the liberals in Washington and on Wall Street that ran the economy into a ditch. All those liberals in the financial sector who bamboozled investors and speculated wildly on mortgages who ruined the economy. And it was that liberal George W. Bush who ballooned the deficit, stretched spending to the limit with his disasterous Iraq policy, and bailed out Wall Street's criminally negligent bankers. If only Republicans had been in charge the last eight years!
Well, there I go again. Blaming Bush. I guess it's the American way to point the finger at someone else and say "he did it!"
Which is why I really like Sean Hannity's innovation over at his "Great American Blog" on FoxNews.com, the Hate Hannity Hotline. A toll-free number allows haters to get it all off their chest on a recording that might even be aired on Hannity's show! Hannity's distinguished guest on his Fox News Channel show Wednesday and Thursday will be none other than Rush himself.
Have at 'em.
