When's the wedding? Everyone wants to know.
Tom Brady may be worshipped like a bona fide hero here in Boston. But outside of New England Patriots territory, Brady is treated more like a curiosity--a mere celebrity to be envied, gossiped about, and even despised for his good looks, touchdown records, three Super Bowl championships, oodles of money, and now, his uber-hot fiancee, Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen. Brady reportedly popped the question on Friday.
Exhibit A for Brady's status as just another flawed mortal is his treatment by the New York tabloids and celebrity mags like People, which broke the story of Tom-Tom and Gisele's engagement on its Web site Monday. And when Brady spent time before last year's Super Bowl with Bundchen at her brownstone in New York, he was hounded by paparazzi who photographed him wearing a cast on one foot. The cast became a major story on Web sites like TMZ, whose sports coverage doesn't go much beyond the OJ Simpson saga.
The celebrity Web site has mercilessly mocked Brady for a string of caught-on-camera moments, calling him Gisele's "errand boy" for shots of him carrying boxes and bags to and from their various residences. Brady's real estate transactions, rumored health, and relationship to former girlfriend and mother of his child, Bridget Moynahan, are all breathlessly reported by TMZ.
Now that Brady's football mojo appears to have slipped--his loss in last year's Super Bowl ending a chance at a perfect season, followed by a season-ending knee injury at the beginning of the 2008 season--he's looking more human all the time. He even goes to the grocery store.
