Celebrate Thanksgiving early this year. Oregon State University Extension Service Master Food Preservers invites Oregonians to taste the bounty of Lane County at their third annual Tasting Buffet, Sunday, November 8, from 4-7 p.m. This year’s Tasting Buffet will be held at the Elks Lodge, 2470 West 11th Avenue in Eugene, to accommodate growing popularity of this event.
The Tasting Buffet gives the public an opportunity to sample foods using preservation methods taught by Lane County Master Food Preservers. Ticket holders may take part in open forum type demonstrations throughout the evening. Some of the demonstrations includes cheese making, apple cider pressing, preserving garden herbs, gifts from the kitchen, how to make homemade condiments and bread baking. Areas for special diets like gluten-free food are set up around the auditorium. Each station offers samples to taste and see. Participants will also have a chance to enter a silent auction and drawing for mouth watering prizes.
According to the OSU Extension Service site, "Master Food Preservers are trained volunteers who work in support of the OSU Extension Service. They share their knowledge with more than 10,000 Lane County residents each year by teaching classes, staffing question-and-answer booths at farmers markets and fairs, volunteering at food banks, and answering questions on Extension’s Food Safety Hotline."
The cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple. This event is a fundraiser for the Master Food Preserver program. Tickets may be purchased at the OSU Extension Service office, 950 West 13th Avenue, Long’s Meat Market, 81 East 28th Avenue, and Newman’s Fish Market, 1545 Willamette Street. Tickets also may be purchased the day of the event at the Elks Lodge.

This year's event is expected to well attended with cooks looking for new ideas for their Thanksgiving table. Gardeners hoping for new ways to preserve their harvest will not be disappointed. Be sure to bring your appetite!
