The crisp wind is knocking at the back of people's necks letting each one know that winter is just around the corner; gently reminding everyone that the Holiday shopping season is fast approaching. To jump start it and have a stress feel Holiday season there are great art shows to go check out each weekend in November.

The Monroe County Historical Society will be celebrating 69 years of bringing local and regional artists for the annual arts, craft and country show that happens in the beginning of November.  This year the craft show will be occurring on November 7, 2009 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Sparta Senior High School.

Sparta, WI is located three hours from Milwaukee, two hours from Madison, 30 minutes from La Crosse all within easy driving distances.  It is time for the girlfriends to throw a snack together for the drive, grab the shopping list and head out to find unique art for family and friends.

It is important to support local art shows like Monroe County Historical Society because the vendors at these shows do this for a living.  The art of creating objects by hand is dying and art shows bring this back to the present.  There was a time when everyone knew how to build a cabinet but now people can be hired for this job and the pieces are manufactured somewhere outside the country.

Take the time to admire the craftsmanship of the vendors at the art shows, and find unique gifts for each family member.  This will be more appreciated than a generic gift found at the box stores.  The shopping may take longer but knowing that the item purchased just help provide a living for a local family brings a peace inside.  Shop local, buy local, and have fun while doing so.

At art and craft shows the crowds are not as overwhelming as in shopping centers, and many vendors will allow packages to be left at the booth so hands can be free to purchase more.  At malls a locker needs to be checked out at a cost for this convenience.

Once the shopping is complete lunch can be enjoyed at the Sparta Senior High School, sponsored by the Trinity Lutheran Youth and School Kitchen or take the time to explore Sparta and look for a quaint diner on the main strip of downtown like Ginny's Cupboard a local cafe for past 80 years. The cafe is located 127 N. Water Street and is opened Monday - Saturday 7 a.m. -8 p.m. and Sunday 9 am.m. -2 p.m.

Sparta is also known for the bike trails so after shopping at the art show find a bed and breakfast or hotel stay the night and on Sunday enjoy the scenery that surrounds Sparta. The Elroy-Sparta State Trail offers three old railroad tunnels to pedal through and explore.  It is never too late to take the bike for one last spin. Reward the successful shopping expedition with a tour of Mother Nature in Sparta.
