Over the last few years, the trend of shaving and waxing pubic hair has really started to take off. At first, it was only women, and mostly trimming, leaving a triangle, or what some fondly refer to as a ‘landing strip’. Throughout the last few years, the amount of hair remaining became smaller and smaller, until the barely there look was out, and the nothing but air look was in. Even men have hopped on the bandwagon, having decided to grin and bare it in hopes of making their little friends look bigger, getting more loving from their partners, and because they liked the look.
Hair removal is a relatively new phenomena, and there haven't been many medical studies on it yet. As far as we know, there are no serious negative effects to removing pubic hair, nor to keeping it. Shaving can cause razor burn and in-grown hairs - something to think about it before you grab for your razor. Some people like the look and/or feel of a natural gential region, complete with hair (trimmed or otherwise), where as others like landing strips, or nothing at all. As long as it is your choice, and you're making it for yourself, you can style your hair (or lack thereof) any ways you want.
Here are some tips if you decide to shave:
*Water is your friend. NEVER try to shave dry. Really. Bad plan.
*Shaving is usually best done at the end of a bath or shower, when all the hair follicles have soaked up the most water and are a little softened.
*Please use LOTS of shaving cream. Keep reapplying as you go. If you think you might need more, you do.
*Use a NEW razor blade, not the one that’s been sitting there since the last time you had to wear a skirt, or the one you use to shave your face. Sharper is better!
*Shave WITH the grain. This can be kind of tricky, because hair down there tends to grow in different directions. Take a look at which ways it might go, and try to go with it, even if you have to go a few different ways. Start slowly, and from the sides, and work your way in.
*Do it for yourself, and what YOU want to look like; don’t let someone else or the TV tell you how hairless to go.
If you have chosen to join the ranks of the bald naughty bits, make sure you moisturize. A fragrance free, sensitive skin lotion is the best opiton, just to keep it happy, health, soft, and most importantly, razor burn free. Some people use a powder, baby or otherwise. The choice is up to you. Try out a couple of things, and see what works best for you, and go with it.
How often you’ll have to shave (if you decide to keep it up) depends on the length you go with, how fast your hair grows, how much free time you have and a few other things. It’s certainly a personal choice, and only to be done for yourself, but if you decide to try it, good luck and enjoy.
