Comics have traditionally been a cheap source of entertainment, but as the graphic novel continues to grow in popularity and the art has evolved to include all manner of painting/coloring techniques, building a collection of new comics now takes a much bigger chunk of cash than it used to.

Well, here's a little something for the comic lover with light pockets:  Stronghold.   For now, only the first installment is online, but the rest is soon to follow.  If you like a good alien-invasion story, or a good deviates-from-the-norm superhero story, this should be right in your wheelhouse.  Brian Visaggio, writer and editor-in-chief for Stronghold says on his blog that this story is like "Power Rangers, but without the suck."

Now that's a tagline.

The story seems destined to head into interesting territory as is progresses.   Again from the blog: "it’s about meaning and identity in the heart of conflict, the nature and significance of belief, and man’s place in the universe."

The artwork is absolutely stop-you-in-your-tracks stunning, and the script - while a little more obscure than necessary- shows the sort of love for the written word that promises to ripen into a uniquely poetic prose.  On the whole, it looks pretty darn cool.  I can't wait to see what happens next!
