Are you looking for a unique and entertaining dining experience? If so, be sure to visit Fort Myers and reserve a table on Seminole Gulf Railway's Mystery Dinner Train. In business for over twenty years, this historic railway is a beloved local attraction.
The current show running on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday is called the League of Villainous Enemies. This comedic murder mystery involves a cast of villains ranging from the sexy Bowtanica to the technological terror master, Dark Ranger. Which bad guy is guilty this time? Murder Quite Diplomatic is another fun mystery set during World War II. It plays Friday and Saturday evenings. Will you be able to figure out who did it? The shows are constantly changing, so you can visit again and again.
The murder mystery is broken up into short segments throughout the three-hour journey. When the actors enter your dining car, pay close attention. Make sure to write down all the clues you discover, because the "super sleuth" in each car will win a small prize.
A delicious five-course meal is included in the ticket price. Dining consists of a cheese and fruit platter, soup, salad, and bread. You will have a choice between prime-rib, chicken, or fish for the main course. Finish with dessert and coffee. Bar service is also available.
One downfall of the experience is that the scenery on the route is unimpressive. This, however, allows a better opportunity to focus on the show and your table company.
Since this is a train, space is also fairly tight. Fantastic service, tasty food, and an entertaining show more than make up for these small shortcomings. I highly recommend an excursion on the Seminole Gulf Railway.
Boarding is at the Colonial Station in Fort Myers at 6 PM Wednesday through Saturday and 5 PM on Sunday. Tickets are $59 ($69 on Saturday) not including tax, alcoholic beverages, and gratuity. Additionally, Seminole Railway has special holiday events, such as the Valentine Sweetheart Express. Daytime excursions can also be booked.
