Las Vegas, Nevada is known for its night life. Finding a fantastic show or a happening night club during the evening hours is certainly not very difficult. But what is there to do in Sin City when the sun is shining? Plenty! Over the next two weeks I will provide you with many daytime options for your upcoming trip.
The first recommended activity is Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat located at the Mirage. Although quite small, this sanctuary is a marvelous way to spend an hour or two.
As an animal-lover, I have been to zoos and wildlife centers all over the world. The exotic animals that live at the Secret Garden, however, are among the most content-looking animals I’ve ever seen. Not only do they appear extremely well-taken care of, they seem simply happy. One reason for this could be due to the fact that the animals are not permanently confined to these quarters. They are periodically moved to a vacation home in the country-side. For whatever the reason, it’s obvious that these animals are well-loved.
The white lion is my favorite animal at the Secret Garden. Not only had I never seen one before, I never knew of their existence. These proud, majestic African mammals are extremely rare.
Of course, the white tigers are what Siegfried and Roy are most known for. Seeing these remarkable felines in person was a highlight of my vacation.
Other mammals on the premises are black panthers, snow leopards, cheetahs, alpacas, and Gildah the Asian elephant. Gildah is the largest animal of the garden, and the only vegetarian.
The Dolphin Habitat is also worth seeing. This educational and research facility is the home to eleven Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins. Most of these creatures were born at the facility, making it one of the most successful breeding environments in the world.
So take a break from the slot-machines and poker tables to visit the animals of Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden. It will prove to be a memorable occasion for all ages.
Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden is open daily until 5:30. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children. Children under three are given free entrance. Special programs such as being a Trainer for a Day are also available. Check the web-site for details. http://www.mirage.com/attractions/secret-garden.aspx
