When we, Floridians, moved from calling the most magnificent of the grouper fish, Jew Fish and started calling them Colossal or Goliath or some such stupidity, I was on board because somebody who had never seen this creature was offended... but everybody knows a swine is a pig.
The World Health Organization and the United States Government want to null the swine side of this illness event by taking swine out of the name. We may take the swine out of the name but we can't take the swine out of the science.
"Six of the eight genetic segments of this virus strain are purely swine flu and the other two segments are bird and human, but have lived in swine for the past decade", says Dr. Raul Rabadan, a professor of computational biology at Columbia University. (AP)
But the spin continues with scientists helping shore-up the WHO and US Government's desire to protect pigs world wide. Egypt, a modern technically savvy country, moved to slaughter pigs because for some reason there is a break down of intellect, this flu has mutated and has facets that include genetic material from human strains and avian strains but is not transmitted by pigs. The term Swine flu references specific functions of the body in stimulating antibodies. The idea of changing the name is a "absurd" said Dr. Edwin D. Kilbourne, 88, the mastermind behind the 1976 swine flu vaccine (that was released in live form).
Those who want to neutralize the naming mess are moving to use its science name, 2009 H1N1 after the two non-swine genetic markers in its structure.
With countries over the world slaughtering pigs to protect their populations from infection, and the US attempting to protect the $97 billion U.S. pork industry (because nim-rod Americans believe that this flu is like *trichinosis and can be acquired by eating bacon), the move to call the virus Mexican Flu makes one pause... if they can do it to pigs...

*Trichinosis is caused by the Trichinella spiralis, and is acquired by eating undercooked pork -- the symptoms of this illness are fever, muscle weakness, and diarrhea. Just like flu!
