A native of Jonesboro, Georgia and graduate of Jonesboro High School and Florida State University (playing alongside current Los Angeles Clippers' forward Al Thornton), rookie guard Toney Douglas has shined in recent play for the New York Knicks.
Douglas, the 29th overall selection in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, was traded to the New York Knicks on draft day.
With sixth man Nate Robinson spraining his right ankle, the 6'1" combo guard has recently had an opportunity to earn more minutes for coach Mike D'Antoni.
Douglas had definitely capitalized.
In Saturday night's game against Milwaukee, the 23-year-old Douglas came off the bench to spark the offense with 16 points in only 17 minutes of action. He shot 6 of 9 from the field and 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, earning himself a few more minutes in the Knicks next contest.
Monday night New York played host to the Utah Jazz, losing by a final score of 95-93. But Toney Douglas once again had a superb night on the floor.
With the Jazz leading by as much as 21 in the second half, Douglas would come off the bench to once again ignite a cold New York offense.
He would bring the Knicks all the way back to even, hitting on back to back layups to knot the game at 93 with just 1:36 to play.
The Jazz would then take the lead on a Mehmet Okur tip and New York would miss on three attempts to tie, the last being a Douglas leaner as time expired.
Toney Douglas finished the game with an impressive stateline: 21 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist in just 23 minutes of play. He was 9 of 14 from the floor and 3 of 7 from deep.
Douglas is now averaging 6.6 points in just under 12 minutes per night, but shooting an impressive 51% from the field and 44% from three.
The New York Knicks' next contest is Wednesday night (11/11) 7:30 PM ET against the Atlanta Hawks. Nate Robinson could be back in action in time for the tip.
