Game Boy enters Toy Hall of Fame
The Nintendo Game Boy can be credited with the reason that kids carry around their handheld gaming systems everywhere they go. And now the Game Boy has been inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame.
Game Boy Enters Hall of Fame
The Game Boy beat out other classic toys like Cabbage Patch Dolls, sidewalk chalk, playing cards, Rubik's cube, and Hot Wheels this year. The 2 other toys inducted this year were the Big Wheel and the ball.
The Strong National Toy Museum in Rochester, NY has stated that the Game Boy contains the qualifications needed to enter the Toy Hall of Fame because it "recognizes toys that have engaged and delighted multiple generations, inspiring them to learn, create, and discover through play. Criteria for induction include: Icon-status, longevity, discovery, and innovation."
The Game Boy is the second gaming system to enter the Hall of Fame. It joins the Atari 2600, which was inducted in 2007.
