
When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
There is a new "government examiner" in town, and she plans on announcing herself on November 8, 2009. Her name is "Continental Congress" and she wants her country back.
Do you remember the history of the first Continental Congress? It first convened in 1774 at Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania nearly one year after the citizens of Boston, Massachusetts held their taxation without representation protest, affectionately called the Boston Tea Party. This was where elected representatives from twelve of the thirteen colonies joined to discuss the oppressions of King George III and the Parliament of Great Britain. After two years at the second Continental Congress, Thomas Jefferson (delegate from Virginia) wrote The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, and the rest is all history.
So why is yet another Continental Congress convening? Do we not have our liberties intact, our Republic established, and our government in check?
There is a growing number of Americans who say, no; our liberties are being violated, our Republic is in ruins, and our government is out of control. According to the website established for the Continental Congress 2009, they have the following goals:
As you can plainly see from the website, this is a completely non-partisan group of American citizens who have decided to take back the responsibility of vigilance, in order to secure our non-transferable rights, and New Mexico is involved too. We have five nominees seeking to be elected as our delegates and we are scheduled to vote on October 10, 2009. But is this being blown out of proportion? This is America, the world's last remaining super power - surely our government is not doing anything bad enough that warrants another Continental Congress. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
It would seem that for a growing number of Americans, prudence has dictated the necessity of this Continental Congress - by the way, this should not be confused with Constitutional Convention - and they are calling on all New Mexicans (indeed all Americans), to be active in this process.
