Wooly Thoughts, by Pat Ashforth and Steve Plummer, creates geometrical, mathematical knitted and crocheted designs with amazing perspective.

"There’s no two ways around it, in the world of fiber, and the arts in general, math definitely has a bad reputation. However, one look at the work of Ashforth and Plummer, both mathematicians, might change the mind of even the most dyed-in-the wool math-hater."

This writer was intrigued by Jacob Haller's project work on Ravelry, using Wooly Thoughts patterns. Not only is Jacob a guy who knits, and there are so many silent ones, but he also is a song-writer and talented performer. His first CD, Mistaken Identity, released last month, with titles like: Stale Tequilja, Hybrid Car Blues, Ezra's Song, and more, reveals early roots of Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, and Chuck Berry family hootenannies with Jacob's own 2009 lyrics about current conundrums.  Jacob writes: "I grew up in Holland, Massachusetts and still remember the music parties my parents used to throw, where friends and families would bring their instruments and we would sing all kinds of music, from old traditional songs to Motown hits. When I got to college I picked up the guitar and started learning some of those songs, and eventually started writing songs, mostly strange little songs written to entertain my friends."

In 2008 Jacob was nominated for 'Best Singer/Songwriter' in one of the free papers in Providence, Motif Magazine. He currently performs solo and with two bands, the Killdevils (an electric blues/soul/rock band) and the Double Decker Dance Band (an afro-pop band).

Jacob Haller's lyrics are edgey, current, and most amusing, revealing a man so personable, bright, and talented, any knitter would love to share a knitting sit-in right beside him.
