Get your swimming trunks, SPF 50 and some outlandish clothing ready (not to mention a plane ticket, hotel room and, oh yea, maybe a ticket for the event itself): Phish will be playing four nights in Miami's American Airlines Arena (AAA) to celebrate New Year's Eve and bring us into the next decade.

The rumors surrounding such an event were more-or-less confirmed last weekend during a successful Phish Festival 8, where playbills included a fake advertisement for a David Bowie/UB40 booking at AAA, an inside joke but no confirmation. Now it's officially, undoubtedly, definitely going down.

Phish last played a similar four-night run at the very same venue in the very same city back in 2003, during a phase that would come to be known as Phish 2.0, a version of the band that never really hit their stride and led to their eventual "retirement." That run saw George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic come to the stage on 12/30 and a whole series of theatrics that included a marching band for the New Year's Eve show.

Now in their far-improved 3.0 stage that began last spring in Hampton, VA, the boys are continuing to build off momentum from a monstrous summer tour and a reportedly stellar Halloween weekend at Festival 8 in Indio, CA. Judging by the indications of late, expect the pace to only increase with their 13-date northeast run that precedes Miami in late Nov./early Dec., and a veritable climax for the NYE run.

As is almost always the case with Phish, a ticket request period is going on now and ending this Sunday, November 15th at 11:59pm EST at http://phish.portals.musictoday.com/, where fans can put in for up to four tickets per show and will be selected by a lottery system. After recipients are chosen for the lottery, tickets will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, November 21st at 10:00am EST.

For the lucky ones who score tickets (and even the brave ones that don't), it's then a matter of getting a reasonable flight and a hotel room that suffices, a hefty load when combined but one well worth it for anyone looking to be in the spot for New Year's.
