See where it all began for the King of Pop!

If you're looking to catch up on some pop culture while you are visiting Chicago, you should definitely check out the King of Pop Hometown Tour.

JWR Tours launched the first King of Pop Hometown Tour in July. The company employs knowledgeable Gary, Indiana residents to take you from Chicago to 2300 Jackson Street in Indiana to see where it all began.

While on the tour, you'll see Michael Jackson's former junior high, the Steel Mill where his dad (Joe Jackson) worked, the old location for the first record company that signed the Jackson 5 and one of the first venues where the Jackson 5 performed.

Here's how the tour works:

  • 12 noon: Board the bus at 1539 E. 53rd Street, behind Borders in Hyde Park
  • 12:30 p.m.: Depart for Gary, Indiana
  • 12:30-4 p.m.: Depending on traffic, the tour lasts between 3 1/2 to 4 hours.

Tours are available every Thursday through Sunday.

Tickets for children 6-12 are $45 and for everyone else 12 and up are $55. Kids 5 and under are FREE!
