Shafiel A. Karim earned a B.A. in religious studies from California State University, Fullerton, and is a current graduate student in the religious studies department at California State University, Long Beach.  His primary field of interest is Islam -- more specifically, Islamic economics and law -- and the role of syncretism in religious conversion.  Shafiel also holds certificates in Islamic banking and insurance from the Institute of Islamic Banking & Insurance in London.
