For one weekend in Fullerton, you could feel transported back to the 1900s. On October 17-18, the 10th annual Ragfest will come to multiple venues in Fullerton.
The music that took the nation by storm at the turn of the century is still making its mark today. When you hear ragtime, it’s that type of music that would make you tap your feet.
If you don’t think you’ve heard live ragtime, think again. It’s the piano music that’s heard throughout Main Street USA at Disneyland.
Don’t know about the history of the music of ragtime. Well, that will happen too over the weekend.
Along with the music making you feel back in the past, the performers will also dress like the ragtime artists of the past.
The Ragfest will take place over five different venues over the weekend. One of the venues, the Boys & Girls Club, is more than just music, as it’s a dance venue also.
Performers include:
--Nan Bostick, whose music has been featured in the Ken Burns documentary, “Unforgiveable Blackness: The Rise & Fall of Jack Johnson”
--“Perfessor” Bill Edwards, who won the 1991 World Championship of Old-Time Piano
--Brad Kay, who has composed music for such films as “The Nightmare Before Christmas”
--Erika C. Miller, who was won numerous Southern California awards for her work in the theatre
--Ian Whitcomb, who has performed on "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson
Ticket prices range from an all-session pass of $60-$65, to session prices between $20-$30. If you bring your child 15 or under, they are free, as long as you pay.
Check-in and registration takes place at Steamers Jazz Club & Café, at 138 W. Commonwealth Ave. in Fullerton.
First performance begins at 11am Saturday at Steamers.
