Reader comments following the surge of July 4 UFO sightings came in from 14 states, according to statements made at this Examiner.com web page. Most are reporting their own personal sightings.

The following statements are unedited and were pulled from Examiner pages from this site. If you had a UFO sighting and you have not already done so, please file your report with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) at this page. The report will only take a few minutes to complete, your identify can be hidden, and your sighting will help the larger body of study in ufology.

Here are some of the comments that readers made.

Tamarac, Florida
Brent - In Tamarac, Florida, about 9:45pm as we where lighting off Fireworks, myself and several other people noticed two amber/orange color lights stantionary to the NNW direction. Seconds later, the two Lights what looked like miles apart from each other started moving in a SE direction slowly. until they disappeared about 4 to 5 minuites later to the SE of our Location. About 10 minutes later another amber/orange color light appeared where we saw the first two and seemed to go in the same pattern as the first two earlier. We did not believe that this sighting would be anytype of Commerical aircraft. I am glad that other people in different States have seen the same Lights around the same time 1000's of miles away. Now, I feel better knowing I'm not crazy or delusional.

Gwinn, Michigan

K - We were in a boat on Big Shag Lake in Gwinn, MI when we saw a Burning spot in the sky. It was about 9:45 or 10pm, and we were waiting for the fireworks to start. It went from red to orange to yellow and back again. It had no smoke trails. We looked at it through binoculars at it, and it seemed to have no identifiable shape, then the burning went out and a black dot hovered in its place for a while. The whole thing happened over 7 or 8 minutes. There were 10 people that saw this at the same time after we asked around.

Harrison Township, Michigan
Zeke - We saw these things as well in Harrison Twp, MI about 3-4 miles away from Selfridge ANGB. We saw 4 glowing orange-red balls moving east to west. I don't know, a couple of friends said they were those stupid Chinese lanterns and said a guy down the street was launching them. I have not gone down to ask them yet if that is what they were doing.

Nebraska
Mel - After most fireworks were done, my family was sitting around a fire pit when they saw 2 separate glowing ball like objects in the sky. I was driving there from work shortly after 11:15pm and I saw one of them. These objects were definitely higher than fireworks. They witnessed their third "glow ball" and I witnessed my second at their house around midnight. We got my nephew's high powered telescope (can see mountain ridges on the moon) but never saw another "UFO" after that. If you can imagine a hotair balloon going at a faster speed and staying in a strait line, that is what we saw. It made no noise. It did not blink. It was a cloudy sky and it was above the clouds. They traveled from northish to southish but seemed to curve with the sky. Hard to explain, wonderful to see.
Mel - That was in Nebraska. Forgot to mention that, sorry.

VanBuren, Arizona
Kristen - My husband and I saw one orange glowing light move across the sky in Van Buren, Ar. on july 4th. We watched it for a few min. until it faded out of sight. Our neighbor, Will, posted above, also saw it. I don't know what it was, but would love to know.

Long Island, New York
buffy - 3 of us saw 7 fireballs fly across the sky and then just fade into nothing on July 4, 2009, 9pm-930pm. They flew only during the fireworks and were bright orange/reddish/yellowish. one at a time, a few minutes apart. they seemed to start northewest and travel south east. location, long island, ny.

Central Oklahoma
Glenn - I guess it's fair to say that Chinese lanterns have finally reached America en masse. I saw one myself here in central Oklahoma on the night of the 4th. They are fireworks people. Just different than you've seen before. I am no skeptic, I believe that UFOs are real, but these orange/red slow moving orb reports are ridiculous. If you think back, they were most likely moving with the wind. As a veteran UFO researcher, I take most 4th of July sightings with a box of salt.

Unknown location
no bull - ok no bull, didnt want to say anything to anyone, and i havnt, in mesa az on july 4th i noticed a black sphere moving east to west,in the north sky, too fast for a heli, and too round for a plane.

Toledo, Ohio
jason - my 2 freinds n i seen a bright orange light that was a perfictly round moving from i think north west 4 about 2 to 3 minits then it stoped in hoverd 4 about 2.4 mins!!then it started to fade away as if it was travaling farther away till we couldnt c it any more!!IM VARY GLADE THAT ATHER PEOPLE CN IT!IV CEEN STUFF BEFOR BUT NEVER HAD SOMEONE WIT NISS IT ASO LEDALONE THIS MANEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jason - AND THE TIME MY WAS 10;18 PM!!!!!!!!

Angola, Indiana
Lake-Goer - Angola,IN 20090704 2300ish Same as most everyone in the Midwest... One flickering/hovering fiery object in the North West Sky(definitely North West of I-69) 10 people I know verified with me Likely in the Thermosphere

Mt. Vernon, Indiana
Davetta Givens - Mt. Vernon,IN. On July 4,2009 our family was lighting fireworks. When our 9 yr. old grandson said look at that. A large red-orange ballshaped light coming over the trees. We thought is was a firework gone awry. It then kept on a slow, straight line heading north My grandson hae photos on my phone but I dont know how to send them.
Davetta Givens - mY HUSBAND IS A bELIEVER now!!!!!

Macomb Township, Michigan
Angie - Ya'll have no idea how glad I am that you are telling everyone what ya'll saw because my sister-in-law and I saw the same thing Rose saw on the 4th of July. We talked to so many people and nobody saw it. We were at 26 Mile Road and Hayes Road in Macomb Township, Michigan. I had seen it a little earlier but it wasn't completely dark out yet and all of the fireworks were going off so I didn't pay it much attention. At that time it was going in a straight direction at the same speed. But, when I saw it an hour later, around 10:30pm, going the opposite direction, I started watching it and pointing it out. It was really bright white-yellow with a reddish-orange glow at the top. It was about 6 times larger than a plane and pulsating. Then it stopped and took a 90 degree turn and moved some more and stopped again and then started moving again, but slower and then it just slowly faded in the middle of the sky.

Kokomo, Indiana
Le Ann D - My Family and I were coming home from an outing on July 4th and saw people on the side of the road looking up and our daughter said what are those things in the air, they were 12 orange disk in z formation flying over Kokomo In... no sound then they disappeared one at a time , everyone was trying to get a piture of them it was about 10:30pm.

Chesterfield, Michigan
Rose - my husband saw it first in the sky around 10pm on july 4th to the west & we are ontop of selfridge airforce base here in chesterfield Michigan. anyway at first it looked like a glowing fireball but then it moved to the side going south then stop on the dime & just sat there & then it went up & down & then sat there again & then going north west away from us & disappeared for good. It did look like a hotair balloon on fire when it came toward us BUT nothing made by man that I know of can fly yet like this did NO WAY.. I never believe there was UFO"S before july fourth but now I do & it is somthing my husband & I & our kid's will remember forever.. p.s. about an hour later we did see a selfridge helicopter go that same way,And we watch plan's fly right over our home all the time & never has anything like this come out of selfridge.......

San Diego, CA
Big Daddy Oso - I live in San Diego and I also saw the red lights in the sky while waiting for the fireworks to start in Spring Valley. They were just south southeast of the 125 and 54 junction at about a 65 - 70 degree angle. There were 3 red lights in a triangle like pattern and a 4th red light slightly offset from the other 3. I did not see a 5th red light though.

Maer Harbor, Michigan
Morgan - Around 12:30 a.m. my family and I(there were 5 of us) leaving belle maer harbor near selfridge air base in Michigan after seeing their yearly firework show.Traffice is always a mess leaving the marina and we were at almost a stand still right outside of the marina when I spotted this red/orange like objest moving at a constant speed across the sky. I pointed it out to the rest of my family and we all stared in awe. None of us could figure out what it was. It moved from right to left then stopped, and hovered for a few seconds. Then it stopped completley, and took off straight into the air until it disappeared. My uncle suggested that it could be a ballon like object, but ballons are not capable of stopping mid air.
Morgan - Why isn't any of this on the news? Selfridge would have for sure seen this, being that it was basicly in their back yard...HELLO?!

Washington
tigersoul - Hey Roger, We were the Washington sighting you have listed - 11 photos, no video turned out - Drop me an email and I'll send you the photos as well as more filtering effects like I did before with some of the images- Best regards as always, Jaackie

Langhorne, Pennsylvania
Frederick Lutz - On July 4th 2009 around 9pm or 930pm me and my two kids were out side of our apartment watching fire works. When at the same time we both saw what we couldn't explane. A round redish ball of light crossing the sky. The sun was just going down.It traveled pretty slow under the clouds. It's redish glow was a soft shade. We both couln't beleive what we were looking at.We live in Langhorne P.a. It traveled across the sky at a steady pass, coming from the sun going towards the west.I wish I hade my camera on me.This is something that me and my kid will share forever...

East Hampton, Connecticut
Jerry - I am from East Hampton, Connecticut. At around 10pm a group of us (15 of us) all saw an orange orb come out of the north at below cloud level and was moving very fast going towards the south. There was no noise and no blinking lights. This was not an airplance and all of us were at a loss. I have never seen anything quite like this. The only thing I have seen move this fast in the sky was the Internation Space Station. If anyone else in CT has seen this please contact me at J.Cloutier99@yahoo.com.

San Jose, California
Craig - I live in San Jose, Ca and saw what I thought was a hot air balloon on fire and it kept heading westward .When it was first spotted it was coming from the NorthEast and climbed steadily upward.I can say 100% of the time I would brush these sightings off as something cooks believe in, but this time I saw it myself. Not sure what it was ,but I would like to know .

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
Yailyn - My mom ran inside from walking my dog Max around 9:30 screaming for me to run outside and look. By the time I went outside I only saw a cluster of four objects that looked like stars in a distance but unlike stars they did not flicker and in an instant they were gone. One after the other left. My mom said as she walked Max she saw at least 15-20 orange lights form what seemed like a constellation like formation. She said these lights were beautiful and hovered low and stayed in place. Some objects she says were actually moving from their positions. This occurred in Bethlehem PA on Fourth of July 2009. I couldn't help but to google what she had witnessed to see if anyone else stepped forward with a similar eye witness account. Last night at 1 am there were only two other people that reported witnessing these lights, and I was surprised to see more people come forward in such a short amount of time. I wonder why the news isn't following this story ?

Nassau County, New York
buffy - 3 adults saw 7 fireballs fly across the sky in nassau county, ny, approx. 9pm,,,1 every few minutes,,,also during the fireworks displays. they just faded away at the end of their path. very creepy!

Florida
Shirl - I saw one up close in Florida some yrs ago. It was scary. It was just hovering above the pines and we drove right under it on the road. It was round, had big square windows accross with hazy foggy light inside. What are they and why can't someone get a good picture?

Evansville, Indiana
tawyne b. - evansville, indiana. me, my 2 daughters, my granddaughter and my husband were sitting on my back deck...lighting fireworks. my oldest daughter yelled for us to look up in the sky and there was a weird orangish-reddish object moving...not real high in the sky. i thought it was a flaming part of a firework floating in the sky. but we all watched it and it wasnt. we watched it until we couldnt see it anymore. i have never seen anything like it before. it was almost pulsating orange and looked to be on fire....very werid! and it sounds so much like the sightings above! i checked the internet to see if there was any other sighting of it in evansville and found none.

Van Buren, Arkansas
Will - This was also seen over Van Buren Arkansas .

Western Washington
KieferSkunk - Interesting. A group of us at our place in Western Washington saw the lights as well. At first I thought they were signal flares, given the orange, flaming colors, but they were moving too erratically. I THINK we saw four - not sure because I'd run inside to get a pair of binoculars. They all appeared to move in roughly the same path - to our view, they moved up from the horizon, hovered, moved right, then left, then right again, then began to move downward as they started fading.

LaPorte, Indiana
Megan - On July 4, 2009 at about 10:00 pm my family and I were on our boat on a lake in LaPorte Indiana on the Upper part of Fish Lake. As we were watching fireworks someone looked over to the right and saw a balloon shaped object with a red glowing light inside. At first we thought it was just a balloon with something glowing in it but when it kept hovering over land in one direction and slowly went down into a tree and came back out of the tree we knew it was not just a balloon. It kept moving in a hovering sort of way towards the left and in about in 5 minutes its reddish light turned off and it moved up into the clouds, after that we didn't see it any more. That was a 4th of July I will always remember!

Minneapolis, Minnesota
Rusty - Minneapolis Minnesota a group of us saw three glowing orbs moving towards us from the NW heading South and out of sight. The orbs were yellow orange, uniform in size and flying spaced out in a line following the same trajectory on an arc pattern. One friend is ex air force and was very excited to see it!

Buffalo, New York
Cynthia-marie - My Daughter in law and 2 other people beside myself were watching fireworks and saw the 3 orange tri shaped object in Buffalo NY. I have seen them in Buffalo before.

Suburbana San Diego, California
Marmullea - Now I am convinced. I was among at least 20 other adults and kids last night who saw the spectacular appearance of three red lights in the clear sky. These lights were moving in a deliberate pattern and formation, and didn't match any earthly description that I know of. We live in a suburb of San Diego.

Location unknown
Raoul V - This is getting exciting. I stayed up half the night watching UFO videos being posted on YouTube. There were close to thirty from all over the world, mostly the US. I found it very interesting how the general public is reacting to these as kind of a matter of fact and look kids another UFO. What ever is happening is happening in a big way. Thanks Roger for all your time and effort.
