You may remember my recent article about the Sonido de Alabanza Church (SDA) in Cicero, Illinois; which is affiliated with the Mennonite Church USA and has been attempting to get a building permit for over 2 years from the Town of Cicero with no success while a local Liquor Store has had their permit approved, the building has been erected and the owner is operating out of the building. Because of these delays, the church filed a Federal law suit claiming that their rights have been violated under the First and Fourteenth Amendments.

Now in a turn of events that seem to this writer to be retaliation, Pastor Juan B. Ferreras has received a notice from the Town of Cicero, Illinois that they have received a complaint about his residence and the City must inspect it. In the letter from the Building Commissioner Frank R. Zolp, the Pastor was told when his residence would be inspected and the time. No if’s, and’s or but’s, just cut and dried without even asking whether or not the time was convenient or even if he would be in town at that date and time. Simply put, Pastor Ferreras was told that he or his ‘authorized agent’ must be present.

See the PDF copy of the notice to Pastor Ferreras HERE

The Town of Cicero, Ill (Google Map) lies about 10 miles to the West of Chicago. You can see by using this Google Map Link  that Pastor Ferreras street looks quiet and very well kept. The homes there seem to be in good shape. What this writer is curious about is just what the so-called complaint consisted of (since the notice does not say) and does Pastor Ferreras have a right to know who filed the complaint?  Again, to me it appears to be some kind of retaliation for the Federal Law Suit.

The Church does have legal council. However, at this time, it is not known if the same attorney is providing legal council for Pastor Ferreras.

Updates will appear as they occur.
