Scenario: You, your child or grandchild wants a pet (or two) for the holidays. But, some of your friends or relatives think that bringing a pet home during the holidays is a bad idea.

Good news: Starting today, Nov. 13th, and ending on Nov. 15, 2009. The people at PetSmart Charities are holding a "Holiday National Adoption Weekend." As the name suggests, this event occurs at PetSmart stores across the country. "The goal is to find homes for more than 15,000 pets in need."

Better news: Due to the support of PetSmart, Purina Pro Plan and Tidy Cat, new Pet Parents will receive the following to assist on caring for their new family member:

A FREE bag of Purina Pro Plan-brand pet food (maximum value $13.99) for your new dog or cat and more than $200 in coupons for products and services at PetSmart.
Plus, when you adopt a cat, you'll also get a FREE 20 lb. jug of Tidy Cat Scoop litter ($8.99 value).

It almost sounds too good to be true, but PetSmart Charities has four more "National Adoption Events through the year. With these events and other PetSmart adoptions, the pet supply chain has found homes for over three million four-legged friends.

Call or visit the closest PetSmart to find out what the hours are. Here are listings for Owensboro and Evansville:

Anyone who doesn’t live close to either of these stores can find one using Store Locations. For instance, there is one in Bloomington and Terre Haute, IN plus Louisville and Bowling Green, KY. Can’t make it this weekend? Check online at PeSmart’s Adoption Center for other adoption choices.
