Recycling for the small business
Going green isn’t a new trend, but it’s a movement that is really being noticed as changes to our planet have been witnessed first hand. More and more people are seeking to “go green” in an effort to do their part. In working toward a greener lifestyle, many consumers are choosing to support businesses that are “green”. So what can you do to start your small business on the path to green? Find ways to reduce waste, create a recycling program, reuse items and involve employees to find creative ways to help
Reduce Waste
Review the way your business operates to identify ways to reduce waste. Things to review include:
- Provide options to customers such as purchasing a reusable shopping bag for your store. Consider offering a discount for its use. This not only helps the environment but markets your business to others through the use of your bag and shows you are an earth friendly business.
- Use email instead of printed memos whenever possible.
- Create a central communication board for memos or information that must be printed, allowing items to be printed just once.
- Use linens instead of paper towels.
- Print double-sided whenever possible.
- Resize print and documents to get more information on a single page.
- Creating a central training area which contains all training manuals and aids rather than providing a copy to each employee.
- Order only the amount of supplies that will be used within 2 weeks to avoid over ordering.
- Washable dishware for serving coffee and treats.
