A player from San Francisco came close to winning the USTA National men's 55 hardcourt tennis championships over the weekend at Indian Wells, Calif.

Geoff Cykman of San Francisco, the second seed,  rolled through his first five matches in the tournament, losing no more than two games in any match.    And he seemed to be on the way to beating top-seeded Fred Robinson in the finals on Sunday after taking the first set 6-1.

But Cykman lost the second set in a tie-breaker, at which point he had to retire from the match with an injury.
