Svetlana Kuznetsova provided another example of how unpredictable the women's pro tour has become by winning the China Open tennis tournament in Beijing on Sunday.
Last week, Kuznetsova lost her opening match at the Japan Open in Beijing to a qualifier, Andrea Petkovic. This week, while the top players were losing all around her, Kuznetsova rolled to the title without losing a set in the final three rounds.
In the finals on Sunday, Kuznetsova, the No. 6-ranked player in the world, blew by No. 12 seed Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-4.
Kuznetsova's road to the title was aided by the fact that she did not have to face any of the top 11 seeds in the event, which featured the top 16 ranked women in the world. Radwanska was the highest seeded player Kuznetsova played this week.
Radwanska nonethless will move into the top 10 this week, while Serena Williams will regain the No. 1 ranking despite losing her second match of this event.
