Although there have been a barrage of upsets in women's tennis the past two weeks, two players who will find themselves ranked in the top 10 next week made it to the finals of the China Open in Beijing.
Svetlana Kuznetsova, the world's No. 6 player, rolled past No. 13 seed Nadia Petrova without much trouble 6-1, 6-3 in her semifinal match on Saturday. Kuznetsova, who has been ranked as high as No. 2 and has won two Grand Slam singles titles (2004 U.S. Open and 2009 French Open), will face No. 12 seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the finals.
Radwanska is currently ranked No. 11, but by reaching the finals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Marion Bartoli, Radwanska is projected to move into the top 10 when the new rankings are released on Monday. The 20-year-old Polish player has been ranked as high as No. 9.
