Late Saturday morning, We The People Coordinator Dianne Howes brought together some 55 people opposed to congressional healthcare reforms.
The rally held at Central and H streets, Lompoc California, was attended by a wide diversity of people. From the nun, to the doctor, with the old and young, to the healthy and infirm, all were adamant that healthcare in America is fine. What changes that need to be made can be made without an overhaul.
Dr. Sterling Pollock, age 87 and a retired family practitioner, held high his sign “Have Courage, Make A Stand.” The doctor is concerned for himself and other seniors, “I don’t want to give up my medical care, under ‘Obama-care’ healthcare for seniors will definitely go down hill. One reform means less time for patients, time is the best thing a doctor has to give.” A change Dr. Pollock would like to see is tort reform. “Physicians today can’t afford it. I wanted to volunteer at a county clinic, just 20 hours a week, and I was quoted $3000 a quarter, that’s $12,000 a year” for malpractice insurance.

Retired “mail man” Dan Rider, proud member of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), was clear, “I have the best insurance in the world, I’ve been paying in for 50 years. I just had $80,000 in surgery on my knees and NALC paid every penny. I don’t want Obama changing it, leave me alone thank you.”
Tony, a disabled worker, typified the feelings of others at the rally. He lists three reasons to avoid the healthcare package now in congress: “One, it has too much spending. Two, it’s too complicated. Three, the system we have is OK, it needs reform, not socialism.”
Orcutt California resident Dianne Howes, We The People Coordinator, has been busy. Having organized several rallies, this Saturday she worked the crowd collecting names, introducing newcomers, distributing signs, and keeping spirits up. She expects to have a rally every first Saturday of the month in Lompoc (11 AM, Central and H streets), and every second Saturday in Santa Maria (11 AM, Bradley and Betteravia).

We The People stands for more than stopping “government-run healthcare.” Mostly conservatives, the group stands for “Restoring liberty, limited government, and the Constitution of the United States.” The group takes stands against redistribution of wealth, environmental extremism, court activism, and social liberalism. The group seeks to “flip the White House in 2010” and quotes Grassfire.org, “It is imperative that conservatives maintain a love for country and respect for our institutions as we defend this nation against threats posed by the Obama Administration.”
