With Love for a middle name, it was only a matter time before actress Jennifer Love Hewitt (Love) decided to write a book about modern romance. “She had beauty, brains and the ability to make men love her”, but is that enough for the "Party of Five" alumna to be qualified as a possible romance author?
With Love’s track record, the media seems to be meeting news of the book’s release with much skepticism. One headline even called her a “genuinely terrible girlfriend” whose biological clock was ticking loud and clear. Ouch.
The serial dater has been romanced by the likes of Carson Daly, Joey Lawrence and John Mayer, was engaged to Ross McCall and is currently dating her "Ghost Whisperer" costar Jamie Kennedy.
Now the actress is writing a dating guide under the title "The Day I Shot Cupid", which is scheduled for release in March 2010.
“Throughout my career, there has always been so much written about my love life. Some true, but mostly made up,” said the 30-year-old in a press release. “I thought it was time to share the real story of what I’ve learned navigating the dating waters. Hopefully, in addition to having a good time, women reading this will learn from some of my hard lessons.”
This romance self-help book, which is a first for the singer-actress, will offer readers dating tips and insight on the landscapes of modern dating from text-flirting to starting over after a break up.
But starting over after a break up doesn’t involve relationship hopping, which Love seems to be known for. Based on her laundry list, the “Heartbreaker” star averages a boyfriend a year. Just last year, she broke off her engagement to Ross McCall, whom she quickly replaced this year with her current beau, Jamie Kennedy.
With a reputation for her capture-and-release tendencies, is Love really qualified to be dishing out relationship advice when she can’t even keep a man around long enough to get married? Not exactly, but she does, however raise a different question that critics should consider before passing judgment.
How long must a man date a woman before he's expected to propose?
In Love’s case, it would seem that one year is her standard. She even warned her current boyfriend through a rather public ultimatum during a radio show that if he didn’t propose by this time next year, there’d be “a situation”.
While some women waste the years a way, hopelessly waiting for a proposal that will never come, Love just gets over it and moves on.
Maybe Love really does know what she’s doing after all…
