Today began by hearing the news that Philadelphia Eagles fans gave dog abuser Michael Vick a standing ovation when he entered the field. To say I am gravely disappointed by my former fellow Philadelphians is an understatement; I expected much more from the City of Brotherly Love.

Many say he served his time, but know this – had these same hideous crimes been committed on humans, or had he been an unknown individual, he would never have seen the light of day.

The court system, the NFL, and the Philadelphia Eagles are all responsible for down-playing the heinousness of the crimes he committed against so many innocent dogs, and the fact that he is once again in the limelight, to be adored by impressionable young men and women, gives me pause for concern about the safe future of our society.

He is no hero because he can toss a football successfully, and though I am not in his head, I seriously doubt the sincerity of his recited remorse. Time will tell.
