With the economy in yet still a blunder, it’s hard to imagine a profitable holiday season—even for game developers. As gaming consoles and games themselves typically reveal their best work during this particular quarter each year, this years fourth quarter won’t be nearly as pretty. Developers seem to be straying away from holiday releases in order to make themselves more profitable in the second and third quarters of next year.

That said, one other particular variant is played into the mix—Modern Warfare 2, MW2. With the holiday season release—November 10th—a lot of developers are wandering away with their tails between their legs. Rightfully so, they should be. It received so much a response that Infinity Ward was able to break away from the Call of Duty franchise all together.
Modern Warfare fans plan to stay true to purchasing the next edition the morning it hits shelves. What this means is other titles may, and probably will, suffer. Thankfully, there are developers out there that are either confident in their product or willing to take the risk.
