Ever want to take your kids to a bar for some live music? Well, here's your chance. Every Sunday at Beat Kitchen in Chicago's Roscoe Village neighborhood is an early show called "Concerts for Kids" featuring some of the city's popular performers that cater to the younger set.
Recent musicians have included folk artist Karen Banks-Lubicz, Mary Macaroni who's known for her characters and incorporating magic into her act, and the Dream Tree Shakers who are kind of reminiscent of the Bare Naked Ladies with kid friendly lyrics. The music is geared more towards pre-school/Kindergarten age -- a good rule of thumb is if your kids enjoy Laurie Berkner and Ralph's World, they will get a kick out of Concerts for Kids. Kids also get a thrill being in a "grown up" place, and thanks to Chicago's no smoking ordinance they don't come out smelling like a stale ashtray.
And not only does the Beat Kitchen have family entertainment on Sundays, they also serve food as well. You can go with one of their specialty pizzas or the yummy grilled steak sandwich, or order off their brunch menu which features things like French toast and my favorite, the breakfast wrap with ham, eggs, black beans, tomato and greens.
