Charleston's best shopping destinations range in price and style, but there is literally something for everyone and every wallet size.
To get the best deals on your favorite brands like BCBG and Fossil, head to the Tanger Outlets in North Charleston. The sprawling shopping center has all your shopping needs: clothing, shoes, food, kitchenware, and accessories.
Charleston Place is downtown's answer to a mall. Throw in one part hotel, one part restaurant complex, and one part high-fashion strip mall, and you get an idea of what Charleston Place is. Drool over items at Gucci and Louis Vuitton before browsing Waldenbooks. Exit through the doors on Meeting Street to get to the City Market.
The City Market has been the place to shop for hundreds of years. Time has had little effect on the market. Slaves are no longer the object of purchase, but shoppers can find items ranging from antique jewelry tosweetgrass baskets to grits by the bag. Haggle the vendors for the best price.
Upper King Design District is the up-and-coming area for shopping in Charleston. UKDD starts on the Marion Square side of King and Calhoun streets and continues until Spring Street. Must-shop stores are Blue Bicycle Books, Butterfly Women's Consignment Store, 52.5 Records, and Sweet 185.
Lower King, where Charleston Place is located, has more of the high priced boutiques like Luna, United Colors of Benneton, and Cynthia Rowley. As you get further past King and Market, it becomes lots of art galleries and antique stores.
There are also lots of cute neighborhood boutiques, especially in Cannonborough and Elliotborough. Mac & Murphy on Cannon sells specialty paper and cards. Beads on Cannon is wall to wall beads for creating your own unique jewelry. Don't be fooled by Spring Street's Books Herbs and Spices' appearance. Inside is healthy food, vitamins, and books. Magar Hatworks at Cannon and Felix is a hat boutique.
