This Thursday, November 9th, 2009, you have another opportunity to share your viewpoints and experience at a California Maritime Academy-sponsored Learn and Serve America town hall meeting being held in Vallejo (see time-and-place information below).
If the words Learn and Serve America don't ring a bell with you, that's understandable. So many of us are operating on information-overload, and choosing the phrases we remember gets to be a full-time task.

Learn and Serve America provides direct and indirect support to K-12 schools, community groups and higher education institutions to facilitate service-learning projects by:
Learn and Serve America grew out of Serve America, a program created under the National and Community Service Act of 1990 to distribute grants in support of service-learning with the goal of enhancing the civic dimensions of youth. Read more about its history.
Vivienne McClendon, Director of the California Maritime Academy's Center for Engagement, Teaching & Learning, told the Vallejo Community Examiner that the main goal of this Thursday's town hall meeting is to identify specific projects that will be a good match for this grant support.
It's all about nurturing partnerships. Other contributing sponsors to Thursday's town hall meeting event include the Global Center for Success, the EdFund and the Vallejo Housing Authority.
