While this is slightly off topic, it is a monumental occasion in both the film industry and the music industry, and for that reason I wanted to share my thoughts and experience with my readers.

I recently had a chance to see the new Michael Jackson film, This Is It. I'm going to be completely honest, I've never been a very avid Michael Jackson fan. Sure, I listened to some of his songs when I was younger, but I never owned one of his CDs, never attended one of his performances, never waited for hours in front of the TV just to catch a glimpse of him during an appearance or special. So going into the film I was slightly leery. The controversy surrounding Jackson's recent death had left me feeling curious, however,  about who Michael was and what he was like when there wasn't a plethora of cameras going off or microphones jammed in his face. So I went into the film with an open mind regarding the popular singer and his life.

The film was moving from the very beginning. During the opening sequence fans saw a series of statements made by men and women who were lucky enough to be selected as dancers and backup singers for Michael's upcoming tour. These statements were taken prior to the singer's death, before rehearsals for the tour began. The sheer respect and adoration for Michael, as well as the excitement at the thought of working with him, showed on the face of each and every one of these individuals. Several of them were in tears because they were about to have the opportunity to work with this man who they loved, looked up to, and admired so incredibly much.

As the film continued, audience members had the chance to experience a side of Michael Jackson that not many people saw. The film followed Jackson and his crew through several months of rehearsals and preparation for the This Is It tour that was slated to begin this summer.

This Is It contained some of Jackson's best work in my opinion. Jackson wanted nothing more than to leave his fans feeling as if they'd come to the show and gotten their money's worth. His rehearsals are a reflection of this work ethic, with Jackson doing everything in his power to make sure that his team achieves a certain state of perfection, not only with the stage layout and special effects, but also with the singing, dancing, and other stage theatrics.

Michael Jackson left a mark on this world, not just in terms of his music, but also in terms of the ways that people think of one another. Jackson brought people of all different nationalities, creeds, and colors together to form one united fan base. He worked to overcome the barriers that so frequently divide and separate races from one another in order to advocate peace and love among all people. This Is It is a wonderful film that shows people everywhere exactly how genuine and amazing Michael truly was.

Jackson spread this peace and love through his music. And it is in his music that his memory will forever live on on.
