As Ida approaches as either a hurricane or tropical storm, the latest forecast maps will update and animate below. See the latest Ida complete update here. Also watch the latest radar from Cancun, Mexico here. The forecast statement from New Orleans office of the National Weather Service:
An area of low pressure will move northward out of the southwestern Gulf of Mexico towards the area. This low...in combination with Hurricane Ida...currently over the northwest Caribbean...will spread abundant moisture into the area. Expect rain chances to begin increasing Sunday night. The heaviest rainfall is expected Monday when most, if not all, of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi feel the impacts of this system as Hurricane Ida or its remnants pass along the coastal waters just south of the mouth of the Mississippi River. With such a close approach of this system, windy conditions are expected along and east of a Grand Isle to Slidell to Pascagoula line. The bulk of the rain will shift eastward Monday night and begin tapering off Tuesday. Showers will still be possible along Louisiana coastal areas Tuesday night. Expect partly cloudy to sunny skies Wednesday through Friday.
