U.S. intelligence services knew for several months that Nidal Hasan was trying to contact

ABC News reports that U.S. intelligence agencies knew that the Fort Hood killer, Nidal Malik Hasan, was attempting to contact representatives of al Qaeda for at least the last several months. Hasan also attended a mosque in Falls Church, Virgina while mosque leader and radical Muslim Anwar al Awlaki served as the mosque's imam. It is suspected that Awlaki had contact with two of the 9/11 hijackers when he was in San Diego.
Why nothing was done about the knowledge the government had regarding Hasan's desire to contact al Qaeda is not known. It is a fair question for the families of the dead and the survivors to ask, however.
The Ft. Hood massacre is not the first time a Muslim in the U.S. military has killed American troops. On March 23, 2003 U.S. Army sergeant and Muslim Hasan Akbar, born Mark Fidel Kools, used hand grenades and his weapon to kill two officers and wound 14 others, while in Kuwait waiting for the invasion of Iraq to start. Both Muslims, Hasan and Akbar, made statements about invading and killing fellow Muslims and the occupation of Islamic lands by infidels/non-Muslims. This is one of the reasons given by bin Laden in his "Letter to America" in 2002 for the 9/11 attacks. He wants all U.S. and non Muslim troops off of Islamic soil and he wants the U.S. to stop giving Israel billions of dollars worth of military weapons every year which Israel then uses against its Islamic neighbors, the Palestinians.
Perhaps it's time for all people in all of the "revealed" religions to let go of their unreasonable and violence promoting scriptures and beliefs and replace them with their God-given reason.
