The Los Angles Times reports that James Arthur Ray, the self-help guru who presided over the deaths of three of his customers in a sweat lodge on October 8, is selling his mansion.
Ray just purchased his Beverly Hills mansion in March 2008 for $4 million. He is now trying to sell it for $5,495,000. Is he doing this to get more cash for a legal team to defend him from the three law suits that have so far been filed against him regarding the deadly and horrific sweat lodge fiasco?
To date, Ray has paid to the surviving family of one of his victims $5,000, or about half of what the victim, Kirby Brown, paid Ray to attend his deadly Spiritual Warrior program. Maybe the con-man Ray will offer discounts to the survivors and their families on his scheduled repeat performance of his Spiritual Warrior program set for September 18-23, 2010, also to be held in Sedona, Arizona.
It's criminal that people like James Ray take advantage of sincere people who want to better themselves. And it's wrong that celebrities like Oprah Winfrey promote these con-artists, thus giving them validity in the minds of millions of their fans. Many of Ray's victims probably wanted to be enlightened so much that they froze their God-given reason and made themselves credulous in the hope of improving themselves and possibly of improving the world. It's very important for everyone to remember to never let go or suspend their reason for any purpose. Enlightenment and progress cannot be accomplished without our God-given reason.
