Yesterday I saw that over 200 dogs, a cat, and a tiger have been rescued from a dog breeder in Seneca, Missouri. Not a
legal breeder, her license was taken from her over 18 months ago. The conditions found there were horrid. Last week I saw that over 90 Yorkies were rescued by the Missouri Humane Society. You all know my feelings about that type of behavior by now, so I don’t need to go there. But I do have two questions.
First-if this person’s license was taken from her (the Seneca incident); she must have been investigated and found to be in violation of applicable licensing requirements over 18 months ago. Is there no follow up on this type of thing? Maybe legitimate breeders should have a check system for this type of behavior. All breeders get a bad rap for this. If I was a legitimate breeder I would be really.!!.mad. This is one of 22 investigative actions against substandard breeders in Missouri since January.
Secondly-Why is she allowed to escape any kind of significant prosecution if she now “turns over” the neglected animals?
I don’t understand how one is allowed to escape punishment by cooperating when the crime is discovered. If I decide to go out and burglarize a home, then voluntarily give back the items when the police track me down; am I then allowed to escape any kind of prosecution? ( I now see she might get charged with two misdemeanors; give me a break, that is a slap on the writst....she knowingly ran an illegal facility for 18 months!)
If this is a loophole in the legal system, I could see a lot of people taking advantage of it. Maybe it is just me, but this just doesn’t make sense.
