It's always nice to wake up to surprisingly good news: The Supreme Court case of Samantha Redding, the eighth grader who was striped searched at school because she had been accused of having ibuprofen (which I wrote about here and here), has been decided. And they ruled differently than predicted. The eight to one decision says that the strip search was illegal.

(When I heard it was eight to one, I assumed it would be Clarence Thomas dissenting, and sure enough. What is with that guy, anyway?)

They also, unfortunately, ruled that Redding couldn't sue the school, which is too bad, but Redding herself says that she is pleased with the outcome. I myself am pleased that underage students enjoy some protection under the law.
