This Weekend in Denver

. . . Is, of course, the People's Fair.

We always manage to forget about it until the last minute, but we still usually make it, because it's an awesome way to spend the day -- it's an entire day of entertainment all in one little area. The music is usually good and child friendly (this year's bands include jazz, rock, and Irish dance) and there are plenty of things to do and food to eat. This year there will be an image contest, crafts, and face painting, just to name a few. The proceeds go to Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods and other non-profits. You can easily spend the day, so bring water and sunscreen (and wagons or strollers if your kids are still small) and enjoy yourselves.

Harvesting Family Fun From a Sucktastic Season

September 24, 10:28 PM
I hate fall. And by "hate" I mean "loathe with every fiber of my being." Everything pretty dies, it gets cold (which, not incidentally, means having to locate five times as many articles of clothing before you can get everyone out... Read More

Beat back to school Blues in Telluride this weekend

September 8, 11:34 PM
When my boys were very small (the younger one was a toddler) we drove up to Telluride from Durango to catch the Blues and Brews Festival. It was a huge amount of fun, even though it was last minute and we were ill-prepaired. The kids joined a parade... Read More

Swing, Daddy!

September 1, 12:26 PM
Family friendly concerts in Denver are pretty rare - usually they are held in venues where you have to wade through mounds of headbanging moshpitters or flailing Leftover Salmonheads trying to do the dance of the eternally stoned.  Tonight... Read More

Forget about Obama and McCain. My choice is Seuss.

August 27, 8:06 AM
It's been an interesting few days here, living as I do a stone's throw from downtown. There's nothing like encountering riot-gear-outfitted police on your morning commute, to say nothing of almost running out of gas in the middle of a suprise traffic... Read More

Mama's Chicken Soup for the Sick Child's Soul

August 22, 10:43 PM
School may be starting about a month earlier than it did when we were kids, but some things never change -- finding last year's winter accessories is a lost cause; kids grow so fast that back to school season means whole new outfits for everyone; and... Read More
