Examiner Neighborhood Inaugural Ball for Saginaw
Examiners from major cities across the country participated in Neighborhood Balls on Inauguration Day. Below is one Examiner's experience:
Many Saginaw residents, exclaimed feelings of joy and happiness, today at the Temple Theatre, where the inauguration swear-in ceremony has aired on Michigan’s largest movie screen. An uproar of whistling and shouting took place as Barack Obama was sworn-in to be the 44th president of the United States of America. People of all races, rejoiced and readily celebrate this great historic day.
The celebration did not end at the viewing of the swear-in ceremony. Saginaw Women’s Progressive, 21 Century Clubs, and the C&C hosted at celebration entitled; Yes We Can, Yes we did at the Celebration Hall. The Saginaw Public Schools also set apart class time for students to watch the inauguration on television.
Great numbers of people of all races came out to view and celebrate our new President together. The bridge the divides Saginaw’s black and whites, wealthy and impoverished, appeared invisible. What will the inauguration of the first African American mean for racial equality in Saginaw?
