The ninth Charlotte High School Sports Examiner top 25 football rankings have been released. Matthews Butler's Bulldogs remain in the top spot in the CHSSE rankings this week for the sixth straight week after defeating then-#2 Charlotte Independence in a great game Friday night, 31-24. All teams that are in the top 25 this week will begin their playoffs in their respective states. The private schools in North Carolina and a few of the South Carolina public schools classifications have already begun, so there is already excitement in the chilly November air. The only classification to not start in South Carolina last week was the 4A classes, which include Division I and Division II classes. You will see these playoff matchups in the rankings below. For more information about the playoffs, you can visit the North Carolina private schools website (NCISAA), the North Carolina public schools site (NCHSAA), or the South Carolina public schools site (SCHSL).
There are a number of factors that go into putting a list like this together, including strength of schedule, records, classifications and others. Of course this list is not scientific, and does not necessarily reflect a team's future results or performances. Also, this top 25 list does not necessarily reflect the opinions of Examiner.com as a whole, only those expressed by this Charlotte High School Sports Examiner. Of course, feel free to use this article as a sounding board of your own, allowing you to form your own opinions and predictions for the weeks ahead. The Top 25 will generally be posted every Wednesday morning, or sooner if enough data is compiled in order to complete it. The rankings encompass Charlotte metro schools, along with all of their conference members. For example, a school can be included in the rankings, even if it isn't classified as a Charlotte metro area school, provided that it plays in the same league as a Charlotte metro area school.
The list will contain this week's ranking, school, classification (for football), record, previous ranking, and the school's next opponent (games assumed to be this Friday, unless otherwise noted; schools are in North Carolina unless otherwise noted).
