North Carolina private school football playoffs begin tonight

The state's private schools start their playoff runs tonight, a week earlier than the public high schools. The NCISAA (North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association) has two division for its 11-man football teams, Division I and Division II.

The Division I playoffs are tonight as follows (quarterfinal round):

• #5 seed Charlotte Providence Day (3-7) at #4 seed Raleigh Ravenscroft (7-4) - the visiting Chargers had a rough season, playing in the tough Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA), losing to Charlotte Christian, Charlotte Country Day and Charlotte Latin. The host Ravens also lost to Christian and Country Day. The winner plays at #1 seed Charlotte Christian next week.
• #6 seed Charlotte Victory Christian Center (1-7) at #3 seed Charlotte Country Day (9-1) - the host Bucs find themselves the third seed after tying for first in the CISAA with Latin and Christian. Victory scored only 6 points against the CISAA, giving up 207. Those six points came against Country Day. The winner plays at #2 seed Charlotte Latin next week.

The Division II playoffs are tonight as follows (quarterfinal round):

•  #8 seed Asheville School (7-2) at #1 Concord First Assembly Christian (10-0) - host Eagles Head Coach Mike Minter (former Carolina Panthers great) hopes to lead his team to the Division II state title. The Eagles have given up only 71 points all season, looking to shut down a defensive minded Blues team who lost their season finale last week against rival Arden Christ School.
• #5 seed Arden Christ School (5-4) at #4 seed Lewisville Forsyth Country Day School (7-3) - the Greenies upset rival Asheville School last week in route to an above-.500 record. The host Furies beat Christ School previously, 42-14, on the road on October 1st.
• #6 seed Charlotte Hickory Grove Christian (6-4) at #3 seed Rock Hill (SC) Westminister Catawba Christian (7-3) - the visiting Lions lost at Westminister on Oct. 16, 42-20, making this a true rematch on the same field. Westminister has won 4 of their past 5 games.
• #7 seed Charlotte Northside Christian Academy (4-6) at #2 seed Harrells Christian Academy (8-2) - another former Panther great, Head Coach Brentson Buckner, leads his Knights to the home field of the defending Division II state champion Crusaders. Northside has lost 4 of 5 lately, and is looking to turn things around on the road in the quest for their own state championship.
