The Texas Rangers have pegged former Colorado Rockies manager Clint Hurdle to be their hitting coach.
The announcement came Thursday, but terms of the deal, including the length of Hurdle's contract, were not released by the Rangers.
Hurdle replaces Rudy Jaramillo, who had been the Rangers' hitting coach for 15 years. Jaramillo turned down a one-year deal with the Rangers and signed a three-year deal with the Chicago Cubs.
Hurdle was the Rockies' hitting coach for five years before becoming their manager in 2001 and leading them to the 2007 World Series. Hurdle was let go as the Rockies' manager in May.
The Rangers say they are pleased to bring someone with Hurdle's experience on-board.
"Clint adds another experienced, successful coach to our major league staff," general manager Jon Daniels said in information released by the Rangers on Thursday. "He's demonstrated an ability to communicate, motivate, and emphasize a team-first offensive mentality."
