The Los Angeles Angels and Bobby Abreu have agreed to a contract that will keep the outfielder with the club through at least 2011.
As is team policy, no financial details of the two-year deal were revealed in Thursday's announcement.
The Angeles have a club option that could keep Abreu in Anaheim for the 2012 season as well.
Abreu was signed to a one-year deal just prior to spring training this year and put up solid numbers, batting. 293, with 103 RBIs and 30 stolen bases in 152 games.
"I am very happy to sign this contract," Abreu said in a press release released by the Angels on Thursday. "I really enjoyed my first season with the club. The Angels are a solid organization, with an outstanding team and great fans. With the talent we have, I look forward to the opportunity of post-season competition once again."
After Abreu's 2009 season, bringing him back was a no-brainer, according to Angel general manager Tony Reagins.
"We are excited to have Bobby and the presence he brings to our organization," said Reagins. "He was an integral part of what we accomplished in 2009 and we look forward to his contributions both on and off the field."
With his 30 stolen bases this year, Abreu ran his streak of at least 20 stolen bases to 11 straight years, the longest in the Majors. He also keep pace with Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez by recording 100 RBIs for the seventh consecutive season.
He also reached 150 games played for the 12th straight year, a feat achieved by only four other players in Major League Baseball history. Also in 2009, he became the sixth player in MLB history to record 2,000 hits, 1,000 runs, 1,000 RBIs, 1,000 walks, 300 stolen bases and 250 home runs.
