The defensive prowess of Torii Hunter and Ichiro Suzuki has earned each of them plenty of Web Gem honors. On Tuesday, their defensive ability earned each outfielder a ninth consecutive Gold Glove.
Hunter of the Los Angeles Angels and Ichiro of the Seattle Mariners led the American League Gold Glove recipients that were announced Tuesday.
For Joe Mauer, it was further proof that he is one of the best all-around players in the game. Mauer had quite a year on both sides of the plate. He captured a third batting title, and on Tuesday, captured his second consecutive Gold Glove.
The Minnesota Twins catcher, after missing spring training and the first month of the season due to a back inflamation, led the Twins on offense and defense. Mauer made just three errors in 758 total chances.
Joining Hunter, Ichiro and Mauer on the American League Gold Glove list are:
P: Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox.
1B: Mark Texeiria of the New York Yankees.
2B: Placido Polanco of the Detroit Tigers.
SS: Derek Jeter of the Yankees.
3B: Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays.
OF: Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles.
The National League Gold Glove winners will be announced Wednesday.
