The Milwaukee Brewers organization's open letter to fans Monday shows just how far the organization has come in a few short years.

While battling to finish near .500 would have been acceptable for the Brew Crew and its fans just five years ago, the team's 2008 playoff appearance raised expectations for this season. For the team to finish 2009 with 80 wins was a disappointment and brought a near apology Monday from Mark Attanasio, chairman and principal owner of the Brewers.

Such a campaign "satisfied neither you nor the organization," Attanasio noted

For the Brewers to top 3 million fans for the second straight year at Miller Park is a remarkable feat and a testament to the quality fans in the Milwaukee area.

.A small-market team finishing ninth in Major League Baseball attendance is an impressive accomplishment not lost on Attanasio and the Brewers organization.

"This is a truly remarkable accomplishment, which once again confirms to me that (Brewers fans) are the best fans in all of professional sports," Attanasio said.

The Brew Crew's 2009 offensive output caught the whole league's attention as the team posted the third most runs in the National League. Prince Fielder posted 46 home runs and 141 runs batted in; Ryan Braun reached 100 career homers in just 400 games, as well as leading the National League in hits; and Casey McGehee lead all National League rookies in RBIs.

The Brewers' chairman noted that steps will be taken to improve the team roster and that the re-signing of closer Trevor Hoffman likely won't be the only off-season move.

Attanasio also showed that the organization gets fans'  plight in theses troubled times.

"We are sensitive to the cost of attending games in light on the economy, and we believe this is reflected in our ticket prices for 2010,: Attanasio said.
