Lansing Area Instructors

Through Okemos Community Education, the Lansing Area INSTructors (LAINST) are teaching the following kayaking classes this Fall (and next spring) for anyone interested in any kind of kayaking.   All equipment is provided and the instructors are American Canoe Association certified.

 Kayaking Basics

This three-session course will introduce you to kayaking and help you develop basic skills and safety awareness.  You will learn about boats and gear, hazards, how to maneuver your boat with basic strokes, and what to do if you, or someone you are with, capsizes.   Offered in three sessions, Monday evenings, 6:30 – 8:30,  Nov 16 - 30.

 Intermediate Kayaking

(Students taking this course should have taken Kayaking Basics or the equivalent.)

This three-session course is for students with some experience who are ready to improve their basic skills and learn skills appropriate for river running and/or open water.  Videotape analysis of your strokes is available.  In addition, we will work on more advanced maneuvers such as braces and moving draws, balance control and boat lean, and learn to roll.   Offered in three sessions, Monday evenings, 6:30 – 8:30,  Nov 16 - 30.

 Kayak Rolling Clinic

A one-session workshop for kayakers who want to learn to roll a kayak, want to refine their roll, or want to learn a new kind of roll.  Offered December 7, 6:00 - 8:30.
